Five steps

Enrolment, the short version.

AUSTRAC online enrolment takes about 40 minutes if you have everything in front of you. Here is the order of play.

  1. 01

Confirm you are a reporting entity

Check whether you provide any of the 11 designated services AUSTRAC has classified for Tranche 2. Real estate agencies dealing with sale or purchase, conveyancers, accountants providing trust account services, lawyers in the same boat, TCSPs, dealers in precious metals.

  2. 02

    Gather your business identity documents

ABN, ACN if a company, registered legal name, trading name, registered office, principal place of business, ANZSIC code, year first provided designated services.

  3. 03

    Nominate your AML/CTF Compliance Officer

One named individual, must be at management level, AU resident. Their name + title + business email + business phone is required at enrolment. Sole traders nominate themselves.

  4. 04

Decide if you'll lodge solo or in a designated business group

Small practices almost always lodge solo. Designated Business Groups are for multi-entity structures sharing a compliance program (multi-office franchises, large legal groups).

  5. 05

    Submit AUSTRAC Online enrolment form

Open an AUSTRAC Online account first if you don't have one. Then complete the enrolment form. AUSTRAC accepts enrolments from now and you must be enrolled by 29 July 2026.
